You-niverse

You-niverse

This session focuses on participants identifying the many facets of their identities. Youth may identify anything from personality traits to social identities and the role of the facilitator is to empower them within these identities. At the end of this session, participants are asked what identities/qualities make them feel like an “outsider” or “in-crowd.” It is important to have a framework to understand that social identities are based in power. Explore the resource below to dive deeper into an anti-oppressive framework on supporting youth with marginalized identities.

Creating Safer Spaces: For LGBTQ+ Youth

This Toolkit has been developed by Advocates for Youth to assist individuals, community-based organizations, providers, healthcare staff, educators, and others that see the value of incorporating key safer space components into their organizations so that young people survive and thrive. Recommendations serve as a guide and should be tailored to each individual young person and organizational setting.

This toolkit can support you in your facilitation of not only this session, but the entire DO YOU program. It includes tips for more inclusive facilitation and creating a safer space for LGBTQ youth, especially young people of color. It also features activities that can be done with young people to explore identity and feel brave in space.
